Ginger plants are commonly used in traditional medicine to treat illnesses, therefore have great potentials to be mined for useful medicines. This thesis focuses on Etlingera coccinea, Etlingera pubescens, and Etlingera sessilanthera, which are endemic to Borneo. The extracts of these ginger plants and their purified compounds showed antimicrobial, antioxidant, and wound healing activities, hence could be developed as beneficial drugs in the future.
