Previous research has investigated the BESS and found that scores were highly varied across experimenters.
This research reveals a number of potential flaws within the BESS.

Beyond the problems of subjective scoring, the BESS only detects dysfunction so that most healthy people and even people affected by mild concussions score perfectly well on the test.
In the present experiment, we look to assess the BESS test and compare subjective assessment of balance ability.
By identifying potential flaws in the BESS, we may reveal the need for other methods that could be used to identify individuals who have actually sustained a concussion.
