Accelerating Semantic Web Content Using PULSAR and Amazon Web Services
Semantic Web technologies are being increasingly adopted in various fields and roles. VIVO and Profiles Researcher Networking Software (PRNS) are two Researcher Profile systems that power specific examples of large public facing websites. The task of efficiently running Semantic Web powered websites that service significant Internet traffic presents an interesting technical problem. The future of the Semantic Web cannot be fully realized unless technologies exist that are capable of handling web scale traffic patterns in a reliable manner and at a reasonable cost.
For this presentation, the data layer module was written for PULSAR was that uses the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), a cloud-based storage solution, to archive Semantic Web content from a Researcher Profile system. Further developments to PULSAR were completed to use the Semantic Web's URI dereferencing action to perform traffic offloading based on the requested content type.
