This dataset supplements the following paper submitted to ESSD:
A global map of emission clumps for future monitoring of fossil fuel CO2 emissions from space

This dataset address the question of the global characterization of area and point fossil fuel CO2 emitting sources (those hotspots are called emission clumps) that may cause coherent XCO2 plumes in space-borne XCO2 images. A total of 11,314 individual clumps, with 5,088 area clumps (whose indices are smaller than 100000) and 6,226 point-source clumps (whose indices are greater than or equal to 100000), are identified, based on ODIAC2017 emission map at 30×30 arc-seconds resolution. The map of emission clumps can be used by global/regional inversion systems and observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs).
