A discrete-based approach to model fatigue damage in cemented pavement materials

thesis
posted on 2018-07-09, 03:33 authored by HOANG TUONG NHU NGUYEN
Fatigue damage is one of the prominent types of failure observed in cemented pavements under repetitive traffic loads. The complicated mechanism of fatigue damage in cemented pavement materials (CPM) makes it hard for engineering design practice to accurately predict the pavement fatigue life. This study aims to develop a modelling approach capable of capturing and predicting the fatigue damage of CPM. The key advantages of this approach include: 1) This approach can naturally reproduce the microstructural response of CPM, and 2) The fatigue behaviour of CPM and crack development can be well capture using simplified material models.
