But before we do that we will have to return to a common flaw that has prevailed in the perception of pre-CE India. Most of the history texts speak of the Āryavarta (“That country which lies between the Himavatand the Vindhya mountains” [Bühler, 1886 : The Laws of Manu, Chapter II, 33]) and the Tāmiḷākam(“Venkata Hillin the north to Cape Comorin in the south and Bay of Bengal in the east to Arabian Sea in the west.” [Kanakasabhai, 1904 :The Tamils Eighteen Hundred Years Ago, 10])But that leaves out the best part of the Indian peninsula between the Vindhya and the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. Was that a mere uninhabited forest or inhabited by savages not worthy of mention in history ?
