Lipid droplet intermediates have recently been described in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe (please see link below). These intermediates arise from fission and fusion events, and presumably occur during lipid droplet biogenesis, degradation or interaction with other organelles.

Here we show similar and novel lipid droplet intermediates in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
