A quick analysis, performed in 2007, to measure the correlation between the journal impact factor where researcher publishes and the probabiilty of getting a faculty job.

The proxy metric for the postdoc-to-professor transition is a switch from being a first author one year to being a last author on publications in subsequent years (first-to-last transition).

The main finding is that despite a clear correlation between the journal impact factor and how likely the authors from that journal were to transition to last-author later, there are outliers such as PLOS Biology and PNAS.
