Balzarini, Jan Andrei, Graciela Balestra, Emanuela Huskens, Dana Vanpouille, Christophe Introini, Andrea Zicari, Sonia Liekens, Sandra Snoeck, Robert Holý, Antonín Perno, Carlo-Federico Margolis, Leonid Schols, Dominique Effects of adefovir and PMEO-DAPym on mortality in mice inoculated with HSV-1 or HSV-2. <p>Groups of five nu/nu mice were inoculated with HSV-1 (panel A) or HSV-2 (panel B) on the lumbosacral area. Each cohort was then subjected to topical treatment twice daily for 5 consecutive days, starting on the day of viral infection. The placebo groups received a similar treatment with the test formulation without drug. Mortality was recorded over a period of 30 days. Animals were euthanized when more than 30% loss in body weight or development of paralysis occurred. We estimated survival rates according to the Kaplan-Meier method and compared them using the log-rank test (Mantel-Cox using GraphPad Prism). Several curves proved statistically significant (<i>p</i><0.01) in comparison of each treatment with placebo.</p> Drugs and devices;Drug research and development;drug discovery;Infectious diseases;Viral diseases;Herpes simplex;hiv;adefovir;pmeo-dapym;mice;inoculated;hsv-1 2013-07-25
