Complex Processes and 3D Printing PriceJoshua 2013 <p>A simulation of 2D complex cellular automata was performed. The state of the system was<br>saved at each subsequent time step, allowing a 3D picture of the models to be created. Each<br>state was treated as a separate layer, with time being represented by the third axis. The models<br>simulated included; a lattice gas, its subsequent variation, and a forest re. A series of cubes<br>was then used to represent each occupied cell, with added overlap between all adjacent cells to<br>increase structural stability. The resulting object was saved as a 3D printer ready .stl le, and the<br>result from one of the simulations of a forest re model was successfully printed. In this report,<br>details of the research into choosing a suitable model to simulate; creating a 3D representation<br>of all successive states and ensuring the result is a structurally viable object; and the options<br>available into 3D printing are provided. Overall, it is shown that 3D printing is a viable method<br>for representing these models, and ideas for further work are also suggested.</p>
