In this webinar, we explore approaches and techniques that are being used and developed to measure and assess the socioeconomic value of Earth Science data. Such methods are invaluable for demonstrating the return on investment of data products and information systems, in order to prioritize where future investments should be made. Our panel of presenters provide expertise from the fields of informatics, economics, and social sciences. Their presentations review terms, concepts, and methods for assessing the societal impact of Earth observations and application, show how citations of data products and services can be used to assess value of data for research and development, and examine the role of participatory approaches to assess people’s perceptions on earth science information. A variety of use cases are presented, including from satellite data applications; data products and services from the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC); and community-level climate change perceptions.
