The video (54 s, 30 fps) was recorded using an iPhone after manually searching the forest floor to locate foraging individuals and acorns with small openings that may have contained colonies within. Acorns such as this one were collected (without breaking them open for inspection) and promptly used for the x-ray imaging reported in this study. %I The Royal Society
