Manhart, Angelika IBM_video.avi This video shows a realization of an individual based model (IBM) for myxobacteria. Each arrow represents an bacterium, colors help distinguishing their orientation. Bacteria align upon meeting, reverse in dependence on the density of oncoming bacteria, but cannot reverse immediately after a reversal. Two families of counter-propagating traveling waves form, however when waves meet, many bacteria actually reverse, hence the waves merely seem to go through each other even though they are partially reflected off each other.<br> particle based model;agent based model;Vicsek model;collective behaviour;myxobacteria;wave formation;traveling waves;individual based model;Biological Mathematics;Numerical Solution of Differential and Integral Equations;Ordinary Differential Equations, Difference Equations and Dynamical Systems 2018-01-09
