They are a part of the 5th generation wireless communication systems, namely 5G. In this thesis, we study the fundamental aspects of polar codes and contribute new algorithms to solve the problems such as throughput and latency, and to help the practical implementations. These contributions have already been cited by the drafting committee of 5G (3GPP TSG RAN WG1 meetings). Finally, we present a sample hardware demonstration and also a software package that is currently widely being used by researchers to simulate polar codes across the globe. The software has recently been taken by MathWorks, Inc., for inclusion into Communications System Toolbox of MATLAB. We also made openly available several educational material on polar codes.
