Groundwater stored underneath the earth serves as the major freshwater resources for many purposes. However, it is suffering from pollution. One example is saline-water upconing process. This process is mainly a consequence of excessive pumping activities that cause the geologically underlying saline-water moving upward. This can lead to the direct extraction of saline water. So this research aims to study this intrusion process in heterogeneous aquifers, which is still lack of understanding, and ultimately to improve the sustainable usage of groundwater.
