In this talk I present the latest results of a near-infrared spectroscopic follow-up of brown dwarf candidate members that were uncovered from the BANYAN All-Sky Survey (BASS), to identify signs of low-gravity (youth) in their spectra. The BASS survey has unveiled a significant population of young brown dwarfs with potential age constraints and distance estimates that can be obtained from their moving group candidacy. I show how this new population can already give us useful insight on the empirical properties of young L dwarfs.
