This is the only known method for producing random bits whose quality and true randomness can be directly certified. To achieve this, we are researching high-speed, low-loss (>98% transmission), bulk optical switches. Such switches are a critical piece of infrastructure in any quantum network based on photons. We are also working to incorporate our quantum-entangled random number generator into a public randomness beacon, and developing tools for the people to access and use these random bits. The first application being developed is an online app that will use our random bits to draw fair voting district maps that satisfy constitutional requirements to prevent gerrymandering.
