As the number of datasets available to scientists and the public increases metadata discussions and systems have focused on discovery of data. This is an important step, but, one data are discoverred, they must be usable and understandable in order to be reused confidently. Methods for evaluating metadata must improve beyond comparisons with lists of fields required for discovery. This paper outlines some ideas for approaches to integrated metadata evaliation and improvement.
