Combined magnetic susceptibility contrast for vein segmentation from a single MRI acquisition using a vein frequency atlas

Posted on 2016-08-19 - 06:46 authored by Phillip G D Ward
The purpose of this work was to produce a multi-parametric contrast (MP) that captures the complementary strengths of SWI and QSM, with anatomy-specific information in the form of a vein atlas, to produce a single image.

To undertake this study, vein masks were manually traced using both SWI and QSM images simultaneously. The maps were used to calculate a vein frequency atlas in MNI space, and to calculate priors for SWI, QSM and the atlas, based on their respective predictive power throughout the brain. The atlas and priors are made publicly available here..

The performance of the new MP method was evaluated by applying several published automated vein segmentation techniques to SWI, QSM and MP, and quantified with a range of metrics. The results of this analysis are in the process of being published.

This collection contains the vein frequency atlas, priors (for SWI, QSM and the Atlas), and some of the manually traced vein masks.
