The physical traits of 10 pairs of adult trees in the Saywell Woodlot at York University were measured on September 23, 2014 between 2:30PM and 5:30 PM. At that point in time, the outdoor temperature averaged 20ᵒC. A 100 foot transect was laid at the North edge of the main path on a Northward axis for the first 4 pairs of adult trees. For the final 6 pairs of adult trees, a 100 foot transect was laid at the South edge of the same main path on a Southward axis. Each time an adult tree came within 2 feet of the transect, it was chosen for measuring. A tree was determined to be an adult if it was at least twice the height of the experimenter. The experimenter measured 67 inches tall and classification of an adult was determined by visual observation. A second transect was used in determining if an adult tree came within 2 feet of the first transect at breast height (67 inch experimenter). This distance was measured perpendicular to the first transect, directly to the closest point of the adult tree. For each of the chosen trees, distance to the nearest adult tree, diameter, and condition of the tree were recorded. All measurements were made in inches using a transect, rounded to the nearest integer.
