On 9/23/14, at approximately 2:51-3:50PM, with a weather report of 21 degrees Celsius and clear skies, at Saywell Woodlot located at York University (43° 46' 9.228"N, 79° 30' 29.556’’W), 10 pairs of adult trees located within 1ft of a 100ft transect were selected and observed. Walking from the edge of the woodlot to the center, at a relatively straight line, each tree was measured for diameter at breast height (ft), distance from the first tree to the next closest point on the following tree, and so forth for each pair, and overall condition. Before sampling each tree, they were judged based upon height (whether it was or was not over 12.0ft tall in order to be classified as an adult tree) and type of tree (only measured Trembling Aspen trees and Balsam Widow trees to maintain simplicity). The equipment used in this observation were 2 transect measuring tapes as well as pen and paper to record.
