Digitizing documents: how to produce and manage an archive of high-quality, searchable PDFs

I present a set of recommendations and tips for producing high-quality digital copies of older literature — PDFs that faithfully reproduce the appearance of the old literature but, at the same time, are accessible, comfortably legible, searchable, text-selection copiable, and indexable. I also include some recommendations for effectively handling a large, archival PDF library. I focus on scientific manuscripts but the tools and tips will be applicable to a diversity of disciplines.
